Extended Producer Responsibility (Ireland)

What is it?

Merchants who sell with Fruugo in Ireland are required to provide proof of their compliance with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) legislation for Packaging, Batteries, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE), Tyres and Farm Plastics . This legislation covers both primary (product) and secondary (shipping) packaging.

EPR is a legal requirement for marketplaces and producers to ensure that they are meeting their obligations. If you do not provide proof of your compliance, your products will not be listed for sale in Ireland.

For more information on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) in Ireland, please visit Gov.ie regarding the Irish Law and producer registration.

What do I have to do?

If you sell products in Ireland, and have not previously provided us with your Registration ID, you’ll see a notification in Retailer Portal that some of your products are restricted due to EPR legislation.

You can share your information with us via Compliance Manager, which will update your product visibility for customers.

Please note:

  • If you do not sell products in Ireland, you will not be required to provide a Registration ID and therefore will not see the Compliance Manager module in Retailer Portal.

  • You must provide your Registration ID as per the information shared with the register, otherwise our system will not be able to validate your information and your products may still be restricted.

Don’t have a Registration ID?

To obtain an EPR Registration ID you will need to register with the relevant Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) for your product category. The relevant PROs are listed on the Irish Government website (for example, Repak is the PRO for packaging). You can find further guidance on the MyWaste website.

Alternatively, you can liaise with a third party company such as Landbell Group, who can provide support to Fruugo merchants Compliance Services.

After your PRO has completed the necessary steps, you’ll be able to share your Registration ID with others (including Fruugo) to prove your compliance with the Irish Law.
