IMPORTANT - European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) - Mandatory Preparation for Retailers.Ā

Please take the time to read, and understand the below information.

What is it?

The European Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) obligations were originally scheduled to come into effect on 30 December 2024, however the effective date has now been delayed until 30 December 2025. The EUDR aims at preventing products that contribute to deforestation from being placed on the market in or exported from the EU. At present there are 7 main categories of products that the EUDR targets (including certain derivative products e.g. leather falls under cattle, paper falls under wood): Coffee, Natural Rubber, Palm Oil, Soya, Wood, Cocoa, Cattle. To find a complete list of the relevant products covered by this Regulation, please refer to Appendix 1 of Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 Of The European Parliament And Of The Council of 31 May 2023, available at https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32023R1115.

This list of relevant products is subject to change at the discretion of the European Commission, so please continue to check the Regulation and this Wiki Page at regular intervals for any further updates.

All retailers listing these commodities or their derivative products on Fruugo will be required to comply with the below requirements to continue to be permitted to list products in these categories.

What do I have to do?

If you sell products in the EU that are of the aforementioned commodities or their relevant derivative products and have not conducted the required due diligence into the product that the Regulation mandates, you will be restricted from selling products in the relevant categories until such time as we have received the necessary information.

You will be required to conduct the due diligence as outlined by the Regulation into the supply chain of the products in question. By way of example, this includes collecting comprehensive information regarding the product and country of production including conclusive and verifiable information that the products are free from deforestation. Please consult the Regulation for further detail on the required due diligence. Ā

You will then need to share your Due Diligence Number you receive from the registration of this due diligence at a centralised EU portal, with Fruugo. You will be able to share your Number with us via Compliance Manager. At present, Fruugo is refining this collection system, and you will be made aware when this system becomes available.

From 30 December 2025, If you list products captured under the EUDR without providing Fruugo with your Due Diligence Number, applicable product listings may be removed from the platform. It is the retailerā€™s responsibility to ensure compliance with this Regulation and any non-compliance may be escalated to our Account Management Team for possible disciplinary action in line with our Standard Operating Procedures, up to and including permanent account removal.

Due to the delay in the implementation of this Regulation and the evolving nature of the situation, please ensure that you regularly review this page to ensure that you are up to date with the latest developments and time frames required.

If you have any queries, please contact your designated Account Manager.

UPDATE: The EU Commission has DELAYED the effective date of this Regulation 12 months, until 30 December 2025. However, we encourage retailers to obtain these Due Diligence Numbers as soon as possible, so that Fruugo may begin collection of these as soon as the Compliance System is made available. Please continue to revisit this page to see any further updates regarding this timeline.
