The UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure Act (PSTI) 2022
The PSTI Act was introduced to address issues of vulnerability, cyber security and privacy issues in internet or network connected devices. The PSTI came into effect as of the 29th April 2024, and creates a new regulatory framework which mandates that all internet or network connected smart devices meet the minimum security standards as set out in the act.ย
What products does the PSTI apply to?ย
The PSTI applies to any product that can be connected to the internet, or a network by a UK consumer. This includes products such as smartphones, cameras, smart TVโs, smart watches, security cameras, bluetooth speakers, or GPS devices.ย
New requirements under the PSTIย
Weak, default or easily guessable passwords are prohibited. All passwords must be unique to each product or capable of being defined by the user of the product.
Manufacturers are required to provide information to consumers on how to report security issuesย
Manufacturers are required to publish clear, accessible and transparent information to consumers on the minimum security updates availableย
Manufacturers must ensure that their connected consumer products conform to a specified standard and provide a statement of compliance
